Why CG Notes exists
Created by a person who understands the daily reality (and chaos) of managing care.
When Mike became responsible for caring for his grandfather and mother at almost the same time, he was faced with the daily reality of managing their care: tracking details, staying organized, and trying his best not to miss anything important.
He built CG Notes to bring structure and clarity to that experience, so other caregivers can spend less time managing information and more time focused on being a present caregiver.

Hi, I’m Mike.
I’m many things, but the most relevant are that I’m a software developer, entrepreneur, and caregiver - times three. In the spring of 2025, my world was turned upside down through a series of difficult life events. In March I was laid off from my software developer position in a corporate-wide reorganization, in April I became a court-appointed guardian and caregiver for my disabled mother, my great aunt moved-in and it turned out she had dementia, and in May I became a caregiver for my grandfather who was in declining health due to prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
You might be thinking to yourself, “why did Mike become a caregiver for three people?” Well, the answer is part fate and part my personal decision. You see, the year prior in January my fiance, my daughter, and I moved into my grandparents house to save up more money for a down payment so we could buy a home of our own. Not to mention, the commute from my grandparents house to my job was significantly shorter than that of where we previously lived. That decision to move in with my grandparents to save money in the winter 2024 would put me at the forefront of the difficult times that were to come in the spring of 2025.
15 months later it was no longer my little family, my grandparents, and me, but also my great aunt and then my mom all under one roof. Furthermore, my grandfather was in declining health, my mom incapacitated, and my great aunt who was denying she had dementia. Since it was only my grandmother, my fiance, and me with no other family that lived nearby I had a decision to make: forgo looking for a new job and become a full-time caregiver for my ailing family members or have them sent to retirement homes and care facilities while I reentered the job market. I chose the former.
While writing this About Me section, I had to stop and think to myself, why did I choose to forgo continuing my career and become a caregiver for three family members? The honest answer is I don’t really know. It has been a little over a year since I made that decision, and maybe a year is too long to try to recollect a thought like that or maybe 2025 was too traumatic and stressful that my brain has sealed off that section. What I do know is that while I may not recall my reasoning why, I don’t regret it. I was able to give my disabled mom an immeasurably better life, prevent my great aunt from being taken advantage of by scammers, and forge a deeper bond with my grandfather while making his final year of life dignified and comfortable at home.
Mike’s mother and grandfather - 2024
My grandfather was a great man, and no, I’m not just obligatorily saying that. He was a loving son, a loyal husband, a proud father, and a true friend to many people at work, at church, and in life. When his mother (my great grandmother) was no longer able to live on her own he moved her from the west coast to the east coast and had an addition built on the back of his house for her to live in. When someone at church needed help getting to a medical appointment he would volunteer to drive them. Seeing my grandfather help others throughout my childhood and adult life left an impression on me. In a way I feel like I am following in his footsteps by caring for vulnerable family members and wanting to help other people in their lives, specifically other caregivers with what I learned through my own experiences.
In going through this journey I learned that low productivity, disorganization, miscommunication, and stressful days for myself as a caregiver, and the people I care for, are more common than not. For example, wasting time searching for lost physical therapy print outs, looking for a care log binder that was left in a different place again, trying to decipher someone else’s hand writing, and attempting to remember the hours I worked was all too common and that’s why I created CG Notes.
CG Notes helps familial and professional caregivers who are struggling with clerical and administrative work by providing unparalleled organization and communication, unlike binders, paper, and text messages which can get unorganized quickly and do not automatically keep other caregivers and family members up-to-date.
